(Virtual) Race Day!

Virtual 2020 Esperanza 5K and 1-Mile Family Fun Run
Saturday, March 28, 2020 – April 4, 2020

After careful consideration, including the guidelines of public health authorities and with input from community members, Custer Road United Methodist Church has regretfully determined to cancel all group activities at its campus through at least April 3rd. Unfortunately, this includes the Esperanza 5K that was to be held on Saturday, March 28. While we are sad to cancel the in-person event, we are excited to announce that the 2020 Esperanza 5K will now be a virtual race. What is a virtual race? A virtual race allows you to walk or run a 5K or 1-mile in your own neighborhood and share your results online with the Esperanza community. Join us between March 28 and April 4 to complete a 5K or 1 mile. Share your accomplishment on the Esperanza 5K Facebook page, on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #esperanza5k. The hand painted Esperanza medals so many of us have come to love (and collect) will be awarded to all finishers who post, just as if we ran the race together. We will email after the virtual Esperanza concludes to let finishers know medal pick-up details.

As always, all proceeds support Juntos Servimos and the Casa Bugambilia Center in Matamoros, Mexico. These are challenging times for everyone. Our friends at Casa Bugambilia continue to provide a compassionate response to medically fragile residents as well as the more than 50 refugee guests. Like us, they are now facing the added challenge of Covid-19. Your support, by participating in Esperanza and through donations is needed now more than ever.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
